I took this picture at Saylorville Lake, just north of Des Moines, standing above the opening in the dam where the water rushes south into the Des Moines River (at least, I think that's the river). It's funny how there are some neat things in Iowa like Saylorville Lake that we had never visited, even though we spent seven years in Ames as students. Now that we've returned from DC, where there are so many attractions and tourist traps shoved in your face on a daily basis, we're enjoying discovering some of the great things that Iowa has to offer.
